The Medicina a Misura di Donna Foundation expresses its deepest gratitude to A.S.D. Atletica Settimese and to everyone who participated in the nineteenth edition of the StraSettimo on Sunday, May 25, 2025. Thanks to their generosity and the community’s commitment, the event’s charitable goal was successfully achieved: the proceeds were donated to the Foundation and used to purchase essential equipment for new mothers and their babies at the Sant’Anna Hospital in Turin.
Thanks to everyone’s contribution, the following were donated:
- 3 Matris series neonatal rooming-in cribs, designed to be placed alongside the mother’s bed to encourage proximity between mother and newborn;
- 3 diaper and clothing storage baskets to facilitate the daily management of obstetrics wards.
The cribs were chosen because they allow the newborn to stay next to the mother during the hospital stay, increasing the safety of rooming-in—an important practice that involves keeping the newborn in the same room as the mother from birth, fostering emotional bonding, breastfeeding, and a more peaceful adjustment for both. Thanks to height adjustment, padded flaps that align the crib and bed, transparent drop-down sides, and a centralized braking system, they guarantee safety and comfort. Furthermore, their structure allows for easy movement between rooms and wards, offering the mother greater autonomy and protection for the baby. These aspects, in addition to increasing the well-being of the mother and newborn, make assistance by healthcare professionals easier.
Direct testimonials from those who have already used the new cribs confirm that: “The comments from mothers and healthcare professionals who have already used the new cribs are enthusiastic. The cribs are positioned next to the mother’s bed and are easily adjustable in height; the proximity promotes rooming-in, bonding, and breastfeeding. Furthermore, they facilitate the mother’s management of the newborn, reducing fatigue, and allow for the implementation of safe sleep guidelines.” and “The Plexiglas wall is an added value: it allows mothers to pick up the baby independently, which is particularly useful, especially after a C-section.”
The words of Atletica Settimese, represented by its president Paolo Gandolfo: “Sport is a factor that aids growth. Ours is a sports club, but the contribution of solidarity and attention toward life has belonged to it for a long time. This year, we decided to support the Medicina a Misura di Donna Foundation in a concrete way, acting as a bridge for the contribution of the people who participated in the race to make a targeted and tangible donation. We touched the consciences of many people, who participated because they recognized a concrete idea that deserved to be supported.”
Thanks to this donation, new mothers at Sant’Anna Hospital will be able to experience the days immediately following childbirth with a protected, safe, and functional proximity to their babies: a small gesture, but one of enormous human value. The action of Atletica Settimese and the community’s response demonstrate how sport and solidarity can come together to support life and the humanization of care.
On behalf of all the families who will benefit from this equipment and the entire Foundation team, a heartfelt thank you to Atletica Settimese, the organizers, the volunteers, and all the participants. Your commitment and solidarity have made it possible to reach the goal together.
With gratitude.
